Rulership is a winner of five Group or Graded Stakes including the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin by decisive three and three quarter lengths, beating Thumbs Up and Treasure Beach.
He is a regally-bred horse. He is by Japanese Derby winner and Japanese Champion Sire King Kamehameha and out of Horse of the Year in Japan Air Groove. In addition to that, his half-sister Admire Groove was crowned Best Older Mare in Japan in 2004 and is the dam of the 2015 Japanese Derby victor Duramente.
Rulership entered stud in Japan in 2013. His first crop hit the track in 2016 and has yielded some good winners including Danburite, who finished 3rd in the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) and the Grade 2 Yayoi Sho, Danon Distancebuki, who finished 3rd in the Grade 2 Kyoto Shimbun Hai, and Kiseki, who finished 3rd in the Grade 3 Mainichi Hai. He was crowned Japanese Champion Freshman Sire in 2016.
