Orfevre was born in 2008. He is by Stay Gold out of Oriental Art by Mejiro McQueen.
Orfevre was awarded Horse of the Year and Best Three-Year-Old Colt in Japan in 2011 and Best Older Horse in Japan in 2012 and 2013. He became the seventh horse to win the Japanese Triple Crown and also captured the Grade 1 Arima Kinen (Grand Prix) twice and the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen. He also finished 2nd in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe twice in a row. He was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Racing Hall of Fame in 2015.
Orfevre entered stud in Japan in 2014. His first crop hit the track in 2017.
In 2017 Lucky Lilac impressively won the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies following the victory in the Grade 3 Artemis Stakes, and awarded Best Two-Year-Old Filly in Japan. In addition, Rock This Town captured the Grade 3 Sapporo Nisai Stakes.
In 2018 Epoca d'Oro earned his first Grade 1 victory in the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) and gave his triple crown winning sire the first classic triumph. He also finished 2nd in the Grade 1 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby).
