Lord Kanaloa was born in 2008. He is by King Kamehameha out of Lady Blossom by Storm Cat.
Lord Kanaloa was awarded Horse of the Year in Japan in 2013 and Best Sprinter or Miler in Japan in 2012 and 2013. He became the first Japanese-trained winner of the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint at 4 and put up a sensational performance to claim the race for the second year running by an emphatic five lengths from the subsequent European Champion Sprinter Sole Power at 5. In addition to the two victories in Hong Kong, he dominated the Japanese sprint division by capturing the Grade 1 Sprinters Stakes two years in a row and the Grade 1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen. He also showed his capability of performing to win over 1600 meters by winning the Grade 1 Yasuda Kinen.
Lord Kanaloa entered stud in Japan in 2014.
In 2018 his brilliant 3-year-old filly Almond Eye stormed home to win the Grade 1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) and then notched a Classic double in the Grade 1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks). In addition, Stelvio, who finished 2nd in the Grade 1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes in 2017, won the Grade 2 Spring Stakes, beating the subsequent Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) winner Epoca d'Oro.
