King Kamehameha was awarded Best Three-Year-Old Colt in Japan in 2004. He won the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby), beating subsequent Grade 1 winner Heart's Cry, with setting a course record. He also won the NHK Mile Cup before the Japanese Derby.
King Kamehameha entered stud in Japan in 2005. In 2017 Rey de Oro bested his 3-year-old opponents in the Group 1 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) and provided his amazing sire with the second Japanese Derby win in three years. Among his other best progeny are Japanese Horse of the Year Lord Kanaloa, Japanese Derby winner Duramente, Japan Cup winner Rose Kingdom, Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown winner Apapane, and Champions Cup winner Hokko Tarumae.
He was crowned Japanese Champion Sire in 2010 and 2011.
