Black Tide was born in 2001. He is by Sunday Silence out of Wind in Her Hair by Alzao.
Black Tide is a full brother to Japanese Triple Crown winner Deep Impact and a winner of the Spring Stakes, an important prep race for the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas).
Black Tide entered stud in Japan in 2009. He was crowned Japanese Champion Freshman Sire in 2012. In 2015, his best son Kitasan Black claimed the final jewel in Japanese Triple Crown, the Grade 1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St.Leger). In 2016, Kitasan Black added two Grade 1 victories to his resume by winning the Japan Cup and the Tenno Sho (Spring) and awarded Horse of the Year and Best Older Horse in Japan. In 2017, Kitasan Black won the Grade 1 Osaka Hai, which was run as a Grade 1 for the first time, in his 2017 debut and then stamped himself as one of the best stayers in the world with a successful defence of the Group 1 Tenno Sho (Spring).
Among his other best progeny are Grade 2 winners T M Inazuma and Tagano Espresso, and Grade 3 winners Meiner Frost, who also finished 3rd in the Grade 1 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby), and Rising Reason.
